Sitting In A Room With My Guitar
Words & Music by Mick Armitage and Jane Thickett

Here is another song I wrote with Jane Thickett. This one emerged in March 1974. It comes in both a short, and a long, version. What happened was; after writing the first few lines we were struggling to write some follow-on lyrics - so came the line - 'But the lyrics they don't come easily'. Between us, we were then making lots of 'err, err' sounds while trying to think of a suitable line to follow this; and ultimately decided to make it an ultra-short song finishing with the wondering 'err, err' sounds - which we sung in a lovely harmonizing fashion. Later, we did write more lyrics to create a full length song. Both versions are presented here.

(Short Version)

Sitting In A Room With My Guitar

Be do be do wa,
Be do be do wa,
Be do be do wa,

Sitting in a room with my guitar,
Hoping one day I'll be a star,
Writing my songs;
But the lyrics they don't come easily,
Errr ----------, Err, Err.

(Full Version)

Sitting In A Room With My Guitar

Be do be do wa,
Be do be do wa,
Be do be do wa,

Sitting in a room with my guitar,
Hoping one day I'll be a star,
Writing my songs;
But the lyrics they don't come easily,
And there's something wrong with the harmony,
I've got it all wrong.

Be do be do wa,
Be do be do wa,
Be do be do wa,

Playing my songs on a cabaret,
And the people stood up and walked away,
Where did they go?
And when I played my songs to a friend of mine,
He said my singing was out of line -
Had nothing to say, 'bout the way that I play.

CHORUS:
Why won't they listen to me sing?
They just don't seem to hear a thing.
So I might as well go home,
And sit there on my own . . .
                                   (Don't you know that I'm . .)

      ****

Sitting in a room with my guitar,
Hoping one day I'll be a star,
Writing my songs;
But the lyrics they don't come easily,
And there's something wrong with the harmony,
I've got it all wrong.

Be do be do wa,
Be do be do wa,
Be do be do wa.
