Lady Of Love
Words & Music by Mick Armitage and Steve Saville

 Audio sample
This is a song I wrote with Steve Saville's help in early 1974: it is loosely based on my friendship and experience with Jane Thickett.

Lady Of Love

Lady of love you're a singer,
Who put that ring on your finger?
It's just like a lock and key,
And it's keeping you away from me,
Oh, lady of love tell me why.

Well when I first met you I liked you,
You went to my head and I loved you.
I had you in my hand,
But I didn't really understand
Oh, lady of love I let you go.

CHORUS:
We could have had a lot of fun together,
I could have made a big star out of you,
But the one mistake I made,
I left it far too late,
Oh, lady of love is it too late?

      ****

I used to think you were above me;
I wanted to ask you to love me;
I was a little bit shy,
And now you're marrying another guy,
Oh, lady of love I let you go.

I think of the plans I made for you;
You'll never know how I adore you.
I could have made you a star,
You don't know how good you are,
Oh, lady of love is it too late?

CHORUS:
We could have had a lot of fun together,
I could have made a big star out of you,
But I guess it's just my fate,
That I left it far too late,
Oh, lady of love - I love you.

      ****

Lady of love you're a singer,
Who put that ring on your finger?
It's just like a lock and key,
And it's keeping you away from me,
Oh, lady of love tell me why,
Oh, lady of love tell me why,
Oh, lady of love tell me why,
Oh, lady of love tell me why.
