Do You Realise?
Words & Music by Mick Armitage

 Audio sample
Here is one of my sentimental songs - probably the type I write most of. It was started in 1972, but not completed until 1975. A number of my songs were written this way - in bits and pieces over several years. This is one of the songs I'd love to hear sung by a professional artist: I consider it my best ever composition, though there are a few people who like many of my other songs, but don't like this one! (Perhaps it's just my recording of it they don't like - if that is the case I won't argue with them!)

Do You Realise?

I've been hiding my heart for a long time,
Hoping one day you would see,
Without words or conversation,
What you really mean to me.

I thought you knew how much I loved you,
I guess I should have told you so,
But I was wrong and now you're leaving,
And all because you didn't know.

How am I gonna tell the children,
You don't love us any more?
Just how do I tell the children,
"Mummy loves the man next door"?

CHORUS:
Do you realise how much you've hurt me?,
Do you realise - all the pain you've caused me?
You said goodbye,
You made me cry,
Just don't know why ----.

      ****

Oh, I remember all the good times,
It doesn't seem that long ago,
But now each night the kids are crying
"Why did mummy have to go?".

And so I've lost my faith in yesterday,
Nothing turned out the way I planned;
I'd give the earth just to be near you,
You and I hand-in-hand - once more.

CHORUS:
Do you realise how much you've hurt me?
Do you realise - all the pain you've caused me?
You said goodbye,
You made me cry,
Just don't know why ----.
