Hi, I first heard of Clifford T Ward back in 1979 when a local radio station DJ always finished his 'Midnight Hour' with Home Thoughts From Abroad. I was actually going out with a DJ at the time and it became 'our song' as we used to listen to the show from our respective homes. Time passed by and we parted but I have always found times when I have got out my LP's and tapes and had a blast of them. Some are quite sad so not a good idea to listen when you are feeling down though. I did know that he had MS but did not know that he had died until once again visiting the LP's and then the web site to see if any were available on CD and yes they are - yippee! I was sad to read about Cliff dying and especially for not knowing all this time. He has left a lasting legacy in his music which I feel did not get the coverage it deserved. Even nowadays you rarely hear his music on the radio, even on the 'oldies' stations, how sad. I live near Nottingham and Radio Trent used to be the station which played his music but I don't know if they still do. Thanks for all the info on your site, it is good to know that he is not forgotten.

Hello Stan, Nice to hear such great comments about Clifford from the home of the greatest music ever written! and good to hear that CTW has not lost his appeal to you even after 30yrs, as for being underated, you will never say a truer word Stan, i'm afraid though that today's boy bands and artists always play safe and only cover welknown past number one's or hits it seems, but perhaps someone somewhere will take a chance and realise what a great songwriter CTW was, great song material never ages, you only have to listen to the Beatles to realise that, and i put Clifford in that bracket of songsmiths, he was that good! the trouble is only the few know this, his songs and past performances need more air time on TV and Radio and even the Internet! -so at this moment in time thank goodness for Terry Wogan the lone ranger for CTW's work and still flying the flag.

I first heard Clifford T Ward when I picked up a LP (Long Player for all the youngsters) for a buddy I think it was about 1973 and had a sneak listen to it before I dropped it at his house "I was Hooked" I went straight back to the record shop and bought my buddy a new record I have been a fan ever since - I think he was a very under rated singer song writer and I'm i'm so suprised some of these up and coming boy bands have never covered some of his work? I think they will sooner or later CTW's music was special 30 years ago as it is today.

Thanks Del, and Mick, for your help and advice re the DVD question. Is this the same DVD that is 'Coming Soon' on the FoCTW sales and merchandise page? It's this one I was wondering about. I shall however e-mail Liz to see if she has the DVD you mentioned Mick...and thanks again.

best regards,

Stuart

I think the DVD is already available Stuart. Try contacting Mike Fletcher (details on this site).

Del

Mick:
Actually, Liz Williams used to sell a DVD version of the Video (copied from it - so same quality - though it had menus/chapters etc.). I don't know whether she's still supplying it - you can but e-mail her and ask!

I missed the 'Old Grey Whistle' repeats unfortunately, but remember actually seeing CTW on one of the programs back in the seventies I think. He sang 'Scullery' as I recall. I just wondered if any of the fans know when/if the planned DVD of CTW's various appearences is due out. I suppose the Old Grey Whistle appearance would be among the items on the DVD?

best regards,

Stuart

It was good to see clips of Cliff on Thursday night/early Friday morning on the "Old Grey Whistle Test". It just shows you that the beeb have some good stuff hidden away in their archives. Also it was a refreshing change to see some good music aired, as I feel we are not given enough quality music on television these days. All we seem to be getting now are the reality shows with "unknown celebs" that seem to be taking over. Anyway lets hope there will be more to come this year.
Happy New Year to all CTW fans.

To Keith, hello again my old friend, and a Happy New year to you and your family. I have finally got round to visiting your web pages Keith, and must say I am truly impressed with your work on them. What a good looking fella you are too, for your age of course , tee hee. Your grand daughter looks absolutely beautiful Keith, and my guess is that she is being spoilt somewhat...and why not mate...we pass this way but once, and whats a little spoiling going to hurt? Your musical scope is breathtaking Keith, my guess is that you and Del would be unbeatable in any musical based quiz, there are lots on your pages that I will revisit my friend, congratulations again on a job well done, and a fitting tribute to decades of musicians, and of course to CTW.

A Happy New year to the true fans, keep the magic alive friends. If you haven't visited Keith's site yet, then do it now, it's worth it!

Peace and light,

Stuart

Well said Keith and Del. May true fans like you two help keep the magic and genius that was CTW alive. Words like his, and musical composition like his, does have a life of it's own. I know in my heart that some of his work will still be inspiring listeners many years hence. He has created audio masterpieces in much the same way as Rembrandt, Rubins, Van Gough et al did with their brushes and paints. CTW lives on while there are people who remember him, and his music.

The 18th December will always be remembered by me as 'the day the music died', but Cliff's legacy lives on, his name lives on and is being rediscovered to this very day! - 'great music' spans decades and never ages, it just lies dormant for a while, but is as perennial as an English Rose'.

CLIFFORD T WARD..always remembered on this date...Keith.

I cannot believe I have only just discovered Clifford T Ward. I heard him on the radio and have bought two cd's, Gaye and Sometime Next year. I will definitely buy more. Love his music and the lyrics.

After reading about his life and music and discovering he was a Midlands man I feel rather ashamed at my ignorance.

Clifford T Ward songs figure highly on the webpage as well as my other musical influences throughout the years, I hope CTW fans will take a look, it's free, and through these pages I would appreciate any feedback from Clifford T Ward fans, many thanks Mick, and keep up the good work of flying the flag for CTW.
Regards, Keith Finney.

Mick.:

To Kevin Gould...Hi Kevin, seems we are almost neighbours, and share a love of CTW's words and music. I have had the pleasure of listening to this man's work for over 30 years now, and never tire of him. My vinyl collection of his work has been unplayed for a good while now, and I am currently on the lookout for a decent record player. However, I am fortunate in having just about all his cd's. I'm not sure if you are aware of this site Kevin http ://www.cliffordtward.info/ . If not, then visit it, you will find just about all of CTW's work on cd there, and all for sale. Take care, and do drop me an e-mail if you fancy a coffee sometime.

regards,

Stuart

Hello, I thought I'd just drop a messge in to say how much I enjoyed finding your website on the net. I have loved CTWs music from the first releases, when I was 19/20 I guess. When a lot of my friends went down the heavy rock road I was more into the singer/songwriter stuff. The first time I heard Home Thoughts from Abroad I was completely blown away and it came as no great surprise to me when it appeared in the BBC2 list so highly! My vinyl albums have been in the loft for a few years now, but I've slowly but surely been replacing them with CDs. I bought a couple of CTW CDs a few months back, and the music is still as beautiful to me as it was the very first time I heard it over 30 years ago. What a wonderfully gifted songwriter Cliff was.
Anyway thanks again for your great website, which I shall be visiting on a regular basis now!

Nice one Keith. I too am pleased to see the guestbook is up and running again. The idea of the guestbook was to promote the friendship we all have under the umbrella of CTW, his music and his words. Not only that though, I think Cliff put forward a special sort of philosophy, a philosophy built on a very firm socially inclusive base, very open minded, very natural in it's outlook, and very human in all it's parts. I also think that people with a like mind are probably the ones who are more likely to be drawn into his music and words. His gift has been left to us all, to enjoy and sometimes to just wonder at. There aren't many like him come along; genius is a much used, but seldom warranted title to hang on people. In CTW's case, it was warranted (in my humble opinion), it really is such a pity that his entertainment profile was not seen by more of the people. Keep the magic alive Keith, and Derek...and all the other true fans out there.

peace and light,

Stuart

Hello to Derek and Stuart - and Jen, and all the other new posters on this site, great to see fans discussing CTW and his great musical legacy that he left behind for all of us to enjoy.

Music and the (fans) were Cliff's life and the last thing he would have wanted would be to lose them. I look forward to your next postings both, and any new fans please have your say!

Best Regards Keith.
